Eat to live, or live to eat?

Do we eat just because we have to live?

Let us rewind our lives to the day we were born, and play the tape from there…

Parents undergo enormous stresses to get the food into us. That is on top of their struggles to earn the money, buy the stuff and to cook them. The aggravation increases as we grow old. Then we discover the wonderful world of snacks, fast foods, instant meals, which parents contemptuously discard as junk food.

But, I bet, they too would admit, on anonymity, that the stuff is tasty, perhaps a bit unhealthy in some areas. They might even secretly welcome them, as they save the daily aggravations at meal times.

Further on, our senses start seeking variations, exotic dishes, as we acquire the airs of gastronauts. We keep stuffing ourselves until the weighing scales buckle under our weights. Hmm, the clothes have shrunk too. We begin to discover that stairs are too steep, we need the car to walk to the post office,... The list goes on.

High blood pressure, sugar problems, ah forget them - we all know about them. We are inundated with advice.

Mention a favourite dish, we start salivating…

On the left, I am going to list recipes of dishes I have tried out myself.

No, no, no!!! They are not meant to be healthy. They are NOT recommended recipes to prevent you from the likes of common colds either. They are just for fun.

Partake in moderation, that is all I am saying.
