The three-holidays-a-year culture!

It is summer! The season we all waited for!!

Unlike some of us, people start planning anything up to an year ahead. Where to go, how long to go for, how do we get there, who goes, do a package or do-it-yourself,... So many issues to plan for. One needs a holidaye just to recover from the planning exercise.

Why go on holiday in summer? For most people, like for us, that is coupled to school holidays. But, of course, there are winter holidays too - for those who like to be frozen and get bedridden because of fractures.

Holidays are also a talking point. Around Christmas, one can hear people mentioning forthcoming holidays. As summer approaches, one hears more and more of such discussions. Perhaps there is a bit of bragging too, I suppose. Some seem to just wait for an opening to blow their trumpets.

Well, it is becoming common for families to go on several holidays a year. Yes, where does the money come from? Hard work, I suppose. They could be born rich, or the idle rich. No, we are not members of those populations, sorry.

The effect of summer on the population is remarkable. Here in Houten, where we live, the whole population seem to evaporate on the day after the school holidays. The town centre is deserted, the streets are deserted, well practically everything is deserted. So, why go away?

But, the animal instincts override all logic...

Let us join the exodus!!
